Half-calf blond with corners, waxed, spine with false nerves decorated with a wine-colored title label, a green author's label and volume number, gilt top edge, 161 x 102, 1890. Limited edition of 500 copies for England and 500 copies for America (Meers, MacMillan and Co), and 220 copies on large paper. Frontispiece engraved under serpente for both volumes, by Herbert Railton. 2 out of text under serpente (Landor, Aspasia) for T1 and (Pericles, Alcibiades) for T2. T1, 215p. T2, 242p. Tables before the letter. Interiors very good, clean and intact. Corners, covers and fields rubbed but good, some scuffs. Rubbed joints, slightly cracked at the head of T1. Slightly sunned spine, rubbed on the nerves, caps and tails, with scuffs. Good, very firm copies.
